XMAS Countdown: Oprah’s Favourite Things

Oprah’s Favourite Things special was my favourite holiday tv tradition when I was a kid.

Oprah was my favourite tradition in general when I was a kid – I used to rush home from school to watch her show every day.

When people ask me what my dream job is in TV, I often tell them that I dreamed about being an Oprah producer.

Nothing made me happier than the annual Oprah’s ‘Favourite Things’ episode.

You never knew when it was coming – but when it dropped it was MAGIC.

The items Orpah would pick would sell out in seconds.

Her items were magic.

There were food items like the holiday tin from Garrett Popcorn Shops and Croissants from Williams-Sonoma. She had UGG Classic Short Boots. She had the BlackBerry on her list. Iconic items from the early 00s. She loved VW beetles …

And every… single… member of the audience… went home with EVERYTHING on the list.

Watching the audience go CRAZY was half the fun.

I would go Tom Cruise crazy – I would jump up and down on the couch freaking out about all the things that she would give away.

Now here’s the question… is the Holidays about things?

Maybe – but I personally like giving things to people. I love the experience of finding the perfect thing for the people I care about.

I get what Oprah says in this clip – it was fun for her.

You want to know why I wanted to be a producer… because secretly they picked the ‘Favourite Things’ and I wanted to be that person.

So here I am years later – no longer jumping up and down on the couch, but a real-life tv producer. I may not be picking ORAPH’s favourite things. But I am in the middle of picking Paula’s Favourite Things… and maybe if you’re lucky you’ll be on my list, and maybe you’ll get one of Oprah’s 2018 favourite things 🙂
